(We have a Facebook page – do come and “like” us and say hi)
National Flash Fiction Day, brainchild of Calum Kerr, is the first national celebration of one of the most exciting literary formats out there. We’re joining in by running a flash slam. Much like a poetry slam, participants will get 4 minutes and not a second more to show just how fabulous the format can be. With audience-led scoring, MCing and ever-so-slightly-cheeky-but-very-friendly critiquing from yours truly, and the Albion Beatnik’s unique atmosphere, this promises to be a night like no other. There’s a Facebook event thing here.
We are absolutely delighted to announce that in addition to the slam we will be headlined by possibly the finest writer of short and flash fiction in the country, the one and only Tania Hershman, author of the hugely acclaimed The White Road and Other Stories. Tania will also be our panelist/commentator, offering some friendly words to our contestants – which makes taking part pretty gobsmackingly special.
6.30, Albion Beatnik Bookstore, Oxford, 16th May
entry £3, slammers free
If you’d like to slam, sign up in the comments below or on the night. And remember, the more people who sign up, the less you’ll have to listen to me pretending to be witty and perspicacious!
There may be prizes, but mostly there will be pride, fun, and anarchy!
Already signed:
Kevlin Henney New Scientist’s Flash Fiction Competition runner-up
Virginia Moffatt, published in 2010 One Million Stories anthology
Frank Burton, funster in chief at Philistine Press

What is the date of the event at Albion Bookshop, Oxford? HF
May 16th
I’d love to take part in this.
Super! I have, as you can see, added you to the list – is there a link you’d like me to use for you?
